Getting Al Gore on the California Ballot

Crossposted on DKos earlier.

I just ran across this Release!

They need people in every district to be able to get the 500 Signatures per district.

SACRAMENTO, CA--(Marketwire - August 22, 2007) - Upon announcing their intentions of putting Al Gore on the California ballot for the state's primary election, California Draft Gore has seen a surge of Gore volunteers and positive support for the statewide initiative which joins a national effort to place Gore on the ballot.

...

"It's been an overwhelming but exhilarating experience to see the enthusiasm for Al. People who normally don't volunteer for stuff are eager to help," said Chris Vallone, Northern California campaign coordinator. "In just the last weekend we have had at least 180 volunteers sign up, but many volunteers are still needed in every district, city, county and region. Everyone who supports Gore has a place in this campaign."

...

The California Election Code requires that in order for a candidate's name to be placed on the presidential primary ballot, a minimum of 500 signatures of registered Democrats must be obtained from each of the state's 53 congressional districts. California Draft Gore has regional coordinators and sub-regional coordinators managing signature collection in each of the four regions of California. Each district within the four regions has a district leader recruiting and training as many volunteers as possible to begin collecting signatures on October 8.

"I view a donation to Al Gore's candidacy as a gift to my grandchild!" said volunteer Bonnie Price of La Mesa, California.

San Francisco volunteer Chenoa Akey added, "What happened in 2000 was a travesty, the ramifications of which are being felt globally to this day."

Signature collection begins on October 8 and must be completed by December 4, 2007. Dwight D. Eisenhower was the last president elected due to a draft effort. For more information on the campaign or to contribute to California Draft Gore's campaign, visit www.california4gore.org.

We have to work hard to get Mr Gore's name on the Ballot! If you wan to volunteer contact www.california4gore.org

Full Disclosure: I volunteered for this, but did not know they were going to put up a press release today.

Re: Getting Al Gore on the California Ballot (3.00 / 1)

I think there is still an opening.

None of the 'Frontrunners' are leading on anything. They should be fighting tooth and nail against the administration, they shouldn't hide the way they are voting until the last second they should go out and sell their votes to the people and even provide cover for other congressional Democrats.

We still have a 2 month window after that it will be no dice.

Re: Getting Al Gore on the California Ballot (none / 0)

Although it's nice to see support for Gore, I like him as well, but the man is not going to run so I just see this as such a waste of effort.  Surely there are more constructive and effective ways to help the democratic party than trying to put someone on the ballot who doesn't want to be on it.  At some point, "reality" needs to set in.  These people might as well be playing "tetris."

I disagree.

If we pull it off we will get a leader that has more experience that all our frontrunners combined.

Thanks for the Insult.

It's your prerogative, but perhaps (none / 0)

you may wish to reconsider, since Gore's right on many things:

  1. in opposing the war when no other major politician had the strength to rise up and say so, and issuing a wake up call to the congress not to commit the worst blunder of a generation or two
  2. calling for a repeal of the patriot act
  3. hammering Bush/Cheney on wiretaps and constitutional abuses, issuing another wake up call to the congress
  4. calling for single payer universal healthcare in Nov'02
  5. strong contributions to the economic policy as VP and results
  6. life long political contributions to advancing science and technology, including the internet
  7. environment and global warming
  8. overall "Modern Progressive Populist" and "Pragmatic Idealist" outlook
  9. long standing experience and expertise in foreign policy and diplomacy with which he helped Clinton beat Bush-I in 1992
  10. believes that people-powered politics are good for the party and the country.

and in 2000, he overcame an 18 point handicap and sustained double digit deficits in 1999 to win the popular vote and likely FL and the election: The 2000 Presidential election: A Synopsis

I completely disagree.  If Al Gore wants to run for President, he would NOT have done it by now - the best possible timing for a run would come in September/October.

Bill Clinton announced in October 1991 for (none / 0)

his '92 race. Gore can enter as late as mid to late October and still be a major factor. Two recent NH/MI polls that put him in the lead if he were to actually announce. That trend is suggesting that once he actually announces, he will be either the front runner or in a tie for it.

Excellent work (3.00 / 1)

And considering some states don't even have the filing papers and the petitions out yet to get signatures, I doubt the other candidates even have it done yet. LOL

New Mexico doesn't release theres until October.

Re: Getting Al Gore on the California Ballot (3.00 / 1)

So many folks are tired of what they've seen.  Or should I say haven't seen.

I even had a couple postal workers asking for some buttons today!

Re: Getting Al Gore on the California Ballot (none / 0)

I'd support Al Gore if he got into the race, but isn't it a disservice to him to put him on to a ballot he's said he isn't interested in?

Just curious about your reasoning here...

I don't care who's the nominee. I'm voting Democratic.
by JWR on Thu Aug 23, 2007 at 12:22:14 AM EST

He hasn't ruled out a run or issued a 'Sherman' (none / 0)

statement that says that if drafted, he will not run. By definition, a draft movement is an effort to simultaneously encourage the candidate, as well as to build a support infrastructure prior to the candidate potentially entering the race via accepting the draft or otherwise.
